Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at empireinjector@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

BBL and Moxi are two separate treatments. Both BBL and Moxi are laser devices and patients can opt in to receive either treatment or a combination of both  BBL and Moxi in the same session.  Results are best when treatments are performed together.

BBL (BroadBand Light) laser treatment is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to improve skin tone, texture, and appearance. How it Works:

  • The BBL device emits a broad spectrum of light that penetrates the skin.
  • This light targets and breaks down pigments that cause age spots, sun damage, and uneven skin tone.
  • The treatment also stimulates collagen production, which improves skin elasticity and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

Benefits:

  • Reduces age spots, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation
  • Improves skin texture and tone
  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
  • Treats acne and acne scars
  • Stimulates collagen production

Who it's for: BBL laser treatment is suitable only for patients who have a Fitzpatrick Scale between I-III. BBL sees pigment, meaning this treatment is not safe for patients with a darker complexion. Patients need to be free of sun exposure for at least two weeks prior to treatment. Patients cannot spray tan, or self tan within two weeks of their treatment.

Contraindications: This treatment is contraindicated for patients who have a Fitzpatrick scale of IV or above. It is not suitable for patients who are pregnant, history of seizures, or patients taking photosensitive medications. Patients who have a history of skin cancer in the area being treated, should not perform this procedure. Patients must discontinue use of any abrasive exfoliators, acids, or vitamin A derivative products at least 7 days prior to treatment. Patients with an active spray tan, self tan, or UV exposure should not receive this treatment. Patients who have melasma should not receive BBL but are great candidates for Moxi, as Moxi can significantly improve melasma appearance.

Procedure:

  • The treatment typically takes 15-30 minutes.
  • The practitioner will apply a protective gel to the skin and then use the BBL device to deliver light pulses.
  • You may feel a mild warmth or tingling sensation during the treatment.

Time between treatments: Treatments are usually spaced 4-5 weeks apart.

Aftercare:

  • Any Brown undertones in the skin will become a coffee ground flakey brown as they shed off the next few days post treatment. You may experience some redness or swelling, which typically subsides within a few hours up to one day.
  • We recommend patients purchase our Epicutis Aftercare Kit for best results and minimal downtime post treatment.
  • It is recommended to avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen for several days after the treatment.

MOXI laser treatment is a non-ablative fractional laser that uses gentle heat to improve the appearance of skin:

  • What it does: MOXI laser treatment can:
    • Address early signs of aging and sun damage
    • Improve skin tone and texture
    • Brighten complexion
    • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
    • Treat acne scarring
    • Improve skin elasticity
    • Treat pigmentation
    • Treat uneven skin tone
    • Treat mild scarring
    • Treat skin discoloration, such as melasma
  • How it works: MOXI laser treatment uses gentle heat to stimulate collagen production, which improves the skin from the inside out.
  • Who it's for: MOXI laser treatment is suitable for all skin types and can be performed at any time of year, regardless of sun exposure, as long as the patient is not burnt. It's ideal for patients who are just beginning their skin care journey or those looking for a light resurfacing option.

Contraindications:  It is not suitable for patients who are pregnant, history of seizures, or patients taking photosensitive medications. Patients who have a history of skin cancer in the area being treated, should not perform this procedure. Patients must discontinue use of any abrasive exfoliators, acids, or vitamin A derivative products at least 7 days prior to treatment. Patients should discontinue use of self tanning and spray tanning at least two weeks prior to treatment.

  • Side effects: Common side effects include:
    • Redness and minor irritation for up to 48 hours, typically lasting just one day.
    • Rough or gritty skin texture- skin will feel like sandpaper for the first few days as your dead skin cells are shed off. Patients may use makeup to cover it.
    • Cold sores (herpes virus)- patients who experience cold sores should notify their provider to call in a prescription for Valtrex to avoid a breakout.
    • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
    • Slight swelling
  • Treatment time: 20 minutes to numb, 15-20 minutes for treatment.
  • Number of treatments: A series of 3 treatments is typically recommended.
  • Time between treatments: Treatments are usually spaced 4-5 weeks apart.

Combining BBL and Moxi laser treatments is recommended because they target different skin layers, allowing for a more comprehensive skin rejuvenation by addressing both surface texture concerns (Moxi) and deeper pigmentation issues (BBL), resulting in a smoother, clearer, and more youthful complexion with minimal downtime; essentially providing a complete facial rejuvenation by tackling both superficial and deeper skin concerns simultaneously. Key points about combining BBL and Moxi:

  • Complementary actions:Moxi works on the skin's surface to improve texture and tone, while BBL penetrates deeper to address pigmentation and vascular issues.
  • Enhanced collagen production:Both treatments stimulate collagen production, leading to improved skin firmness and elasticity.
  • Comprehensive treatment:This combination addresses a wider range of skin concerns like fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, redness, and uneven skin tone.
  • Minimal downtime:Both treatments are considered minimally invasive with minimal recovery time
